If you’ve been following along with my IG Stories, then you already know I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect spicy marg recipe. I’m not really a person that likes a spicy foods, but I love a little bit of spice to cut down on the sweetness that usually comes along with a marg.
After looking on Pinterest for the perfect recipe, I realized that there were so many variations, so I took it upon myself to try them all and figure out what works best.
In my opinion, it’s the seasoning on the rim that really makes this drink. I’m huge lover of salt, I put it on everything, but don’t live it on my margs. However, this seasoning combo really takes it to the next level.
One annoying thing I noticed is that most recipes call or 1 or 2 oz of ingredients, but the jiggers that come with a bar set are 1 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz, which doesn’t allow you to come out to and even 1 or 2 oz. Basically, I just kept my ratio 2:1:1. 2 parts of tequila to one part Cointreau and lime juice.
This recipe pairs perfectly with my fish taco recipe.
INGREDIENTS:
*This recipe is for one strong marg. Plus it up if you’re going to make multiple.
- 3 oz tequila (two of the big sides of the jigger)
- 1 1/2 oz Cointreau (If you don’t have Cointreau, you can use Triple Sec)
- 2 limes (one for the juice, one for garnish)
- 1 jalapeno
- Agave
- A splash of orange juice
- A little more than 1/4 tsp Sea salt
- 1/4 tsp Chili powder
- 1/4 tsp Paprika
- a little less than 1/4 tsp Cumin
- Cilantro (optional for garnish)
- Ice
Tools:
- Shaker with a strainer
- Jigger
- Muddler
- Rocks glass
HOW TO:
- Mix the salt, chili powder, paprika and cumin on a plate.
- Wipe a lime wedge around the edge of the glass to make the seasoning stick.
- Swipe the rim of the glass around in the seasoning.
- Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
- In the shaker, add in 1/2 of a sliced jalapeno. Add more slices depending on how spicy you want it.
- Muddle the jalapeno to release the juiced and flavors.
- Fill the shaker with ice.
- Add in the tequila, Cointreau, juice of one lime, a splash of agave and a splash of OJ.
- Shake until the outside is frothy and your hand is freezing.
- Strain and pour into your glass.
- Garnish with a slice of lime, jalapeno and cilantro.
Here are a few modifications you can make:
- To make it sweeter, add more agave or orange juice.
- To make it more citrusy, add more lime juice.
- To make it spicier, add more jalepenos.
Enjoy!
