It’s the most wonderful time of the year (even during quarantine). I think this year, more than ever, we really need the sparkle and joy that holiday decor brings to your home (which is probably why I put up my decor on Nov. 1. lol!)
My holiday decor style is very neutral. I like to use colors that go with my normal home decor. You won’t find red over here. I also like to keep it pretty simple. I choose a few areas around my house, mostly downstairs, and focus on those areas. Keep reading for my tips on decorating.
I tried to link as much as I could, or find similar items, but a lot of my home decor has been collected over the years from places I can’t link to. I also listed my favorite places to shop below.
Burlap Poinsettia Pick // Champagne Poinsettia Pick
Champagne Glitter Fern Pick // Pale Copper Glitter Berry Pick // Cotton Pick
I was having trouble finding a lit light gold star that I liked, so I decided to give silver a go. Well, when it came in, I didn’t really love it with the tree, but when I went to return it on Amazon, they told me just to keep it and gave me my money back, so silver star it is! Free is for me.
If you have a faux tree, you need these! They are little scent sticks that you hang in you tree. This scent is amazing, and it actually last a long time too. I’ve seen them at Hobby Lobby and Target.
I actually got the unlit garland for $20 at At Home and just strung my own lights through it.

TIPS FOR DECORATING:
Stick to your color palette // Mine is all neutral — Bronzey/brown, white and champagne. I don’t stray from this, as it makes all the decor feel cohesive.
Mix textures // While, sticking within your color palette, mix in different textures. I like faux fur, sparkles, burlap etc. This will give your tree dimension.
Avoid a lot of sentimental ornaments // This is obviously a personal choice, but I think personal ornaments tend to lean towards tacky. I have 1-2 personal bulbs on my tree, but they are in my color palette, and don’t really stand out.
Mix your lights // Even though my tree is pre-lit, I like to add an extra few strands of the big old school light bulbs. Not only does this make the tree brighter, but it also gives some visual interest. The old school lights are also more of a bright white, while my tree is more warm, which gives dimension.
Add picks // Picks are the filler sticks that you stick in the tree. I feel like these really help elevate your tree and fill in any empty spots. I have about 10-12 on my tree and mix a bunch of styles.
Take time to fluff your branches // My tree was only $100, and you wouldn’t know it from looking at it because I took my time with the branches to make sure you can’t see through it. If you’ve fluffed and fluffed, but still have gaps, add some of this to the center where needed.
FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP:
Hobby Lobby – There stuff is always 50% off, making cute decor really affordable
Target – I find great small decor for under $15
Michaels/Joanne Fabric – You might not think to look here, but they have good sales and trendy decor.
At Home – Their holiday section is massive, and they have rows and rows of decor for every theme/style.
