Summer is the time of bronzers! Well… Actually, if you’re like me, every season is. Since I’m naturally pretty fair, I like maintaining a nice self-tan year round which required a good bronzer to keep everything looking cohesive. You have to find the right balance between Cheeto face and Casper face, so I’m going to break down the different tones of bronzers, where to apply and a few that I’ve been loving for summer.
Cool-toned: These bronzers have an ashier tone to them and should be used contouring the hollows of your face.
Warm-toned: These are great for adding warmth back into the skin. They are also great for helping to color match your foundation to any self-tanner on the rest of your body. Concentrate warmer bronzers on places where your face naturally gets the most color from the sun, like cheeks and forehead.
Shimmer: Bronzers with shimmer in them aren’t for everybody. I personally love them, but there is a fine line between shimmer and glitter. Avoid glitter like the plague. I apply shimmer bronzers anywhere on my face that I want to add some glow to. It helps make your face not look so flat.
1. The Balm Betty-Lou Manizer
Shimmer – Warm tone
I can’t tell you how many of these I’ve gone through. I’ve been using this bronzer for years and don’t think I can ever be without it. I use it to give my face an all-over healthy bronzy glow. It’s warm-toned and has a sheen to it. You can also use a very small amount in a brush and buff it all over your face to give a “Instagram filter look.”
2. NYX Matte Bronzer
Matte – Warm tone
This is another one that I’ve had in my collection for years. It’s definitely more of an orangey bronzer. The reason I like it is because it’s perfect for getting your face to match your body if you self tan. (I use “deep tan” for that.)
3. Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
Slight sheen – Neutral tone
This is the perfect everyday bronzer. It’s less orange than the NYX and The Balm ones so you can use it to contour with while still warming up the face. It has a really soft texture so it applies evenly and even smells really good!
4. NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop
Matte – Depends on the shade you get
I know cream bronzers can scare people, but these are easy to work with. They don’t try down too quickly so, you’re able to blend them in. I like to use a damp beauty blender. Depending on the shade you get, these can either be used to contour with or to give the skin some warmth. I’ve even used these to mix with my foundation to get the perfect shade to match my self tan.
5. The Balm Take Home The Bronze
Matte – Warm tone
This bronzer is really pigmented and easy to blend. It give you warmth without being orange. I use the shade Oliver for both bronzing up the face and for contouring depending on how tan/pale I am. I’m currently on my second one, and they last a really long time.
